Itinerary
The wonderful thing about travelling for a year is that there’s so much potential. We could do anything, just anything! But with that luxury comes a price – and the price is having to decide what to do and what not to do. There’s no way to go everywhere and there are just so many wonderful places we could go.
So our itinerary is fairly fluid. But travelling with two kids we decided early on that we wanted some stability. We wanted to usually spend a week or two in a place. We wanted to stay in apartments or houses rather than a succession of hostels or hotel rooms. That has meant we’ve had to lock in our itinerary relatively well ahead – although we’ve accepted, and budgeted, that we’ll occasionally have to take a loss on a cancellation when we change our minds.
We’ll try and keep this page up to date, and maybe add a google map or two. As we have stayed in places, we’re linking to the accommodation we stayed at. I’ll be reviewing it where possible (in the page I link to, or another one).

HOME!

Montreal, schmontreal. What about Toronto? We have plenty of room for a travelling family of 4, there’s a pizza joint on the corner of our street and we are a mere 90 minutes from Niagara Falls, (which narrowly missed being classifed as) one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World.
Just a thought.
Enjoy your trip and look forward to hearing about your adventures…..

I realise it’s not on your itinery yet, but if you happpen to find youself near Lucern in Switzerland, and continuing your museum theme, my fiancee (H/S Chemistry teacher w/ Masters in Science Communication) and I (Mechatronic Engineer) were particularly impressed on our recent visit to the Verkehrshaus Museum of Transport. Very interactive, everything worked, LOTS to see, explaination and commentary without exception in four languages.
While it is a transport museum at heart with an impressive array of real trains, planes and automobiles, these are accompanied by extensive examples and explaination of the scientific and social aspects too. An Imax theater, planetarium and fully-interactive computer science themed-exhibit added to the diversity of topics covered. The museums innovative, up-to date interactive exhibits really caught our attention and we left after a full day still without having seen everything the museum had to offer.
Jennifer, it’s wonderful reading about your trip. Please do let me know when you’re planning the US part of your trip, especially NY and DC. I’d really like to get to meet you in person.
I also want to pick your brain about Beijing a little — we’re going to China and Japan this summer, and I ran across your hotel review on trip advisor. Can you email me? (I emailed you, but think it may be your work address, which may not work.)
Wow,
Just tracking through the emails musing on my Uni course and doing some readings late at night here in Sydney and I thought to look at your blog again. Only a little bit or jealousy affecting my current mental state.
It is great to keep track of you all on your trip and seeing the boys having such an awesome experience. I remember well my time spent in a couple of the places you mention. Did you visit the Australian museum at the school in Villers-Bretonneux?
I look forward to having a chat about the Jordan leg of your trip as I have it on my list. Any secrets from the Knights Templar found in Acre Declan? What about you Callum? Any good idea for inventions that will make life easier for travelling families?
Best wishes
Mr Land
Callum and Declan have written their suggestions on their blogs. Take a look!
You’re not coming to Arizona in the United States, are you?
No, we did really want to get to the Grand Canyon, but it’ll have to wait for another trip.
